Sophie Reverdi

Sophie Reverdi – Biography

A multidisciplinary artist and former health expert, Sophie Reverdi has dedicated her life to transformation—whether by guiding individuals toward well-being or by creating artistic works that soothe, heal, and inspire.

For more than two decades, she led Smartandlight.com, a programm she conceived,  devoted to the ethical and holistic support of individuals dealing with overweight and obesity. With a team of the best health professionals, she developed innovative nutrition programs, behavioral coaching, and introduced clients to organic and gourmet dietary cuisine which was her passion and her aim. Her work went far beyond coaching—it was a true mission of the heart, forging deep human connections that often turned into lifelong friendships.

But life is made of cycles, and as she approached her 60th year, Sophie felt an undeniable pull back to her first passion : Art in all its forms.

Music: The Soul of 9 Avenue B

Long before her health career, Sophie was already an artist. In 1996, she co-founded the band 9 Avenue B with composer Emmanuel Reverdi, an ambitious project blending Trip-hop, Ambient, Jazz, Blues, Spoken Word, and Urban Electro. Their first album, Access, recorded with minimal equipment in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, quickly caught attention : Virgin Megastore adopted it as its official opening and closing theme in 16 stores across France. This success led to a collaboration with Gilbert Castro, founder of Mélodie Musique, who introduced them to Jean Davoust (Warner Chappell). The result: a contract with BMG’s Famous Music France.

Discography of 9 Avenue B

  • Access (1996) – An hypnotic fusion of poetry and soundscapes, becoming an iconic track at Virgin Megastores for a decade.

  • Brand New (2004) – An even more experimental album, exploring haunting electronic textures and deep introspection.

  • Réconciliation (2024) – A reflective return, marking 30 years of artistic and personal evolution, dedicated to their now-grown children.

🟢 Today, all three 9 Avenue B albums are available on major music streaming platforms.

Cinema: A Mobile Film Pioneer

In 2004, after a painful breakup, Sophie turned her sorrow into art with Heartbroken in London, a five-minute short film shot entirely on a first-generation Nokia phone. Without realizing it, she became a pioneer of mobile cinema, a mode of expression that would soon be embraced by independent filmmakers, YouTubers, Tiktokers, and digital creators.

Selected for the Cannes Film Festival, the film was recognized as the first-ever mobile phone film, marking a turning point in digital cinema history. Media outlets, including Libération and Hytek, highlighted its significance, describing it as the birth of a new cinematic language for generations Y and Z.

She continued her cinematic journey with Out of Basarabia (2008), an intimate exploration of her Bessarabian roots, delving into themes of identity and lost memory. Selected for Cannes, this film led to an invitation to the Sousse Experimental Film Festival, where she hosted a Masterclass in 2009. Today, she is developing Spoken Roads, a 52 minutes documentary exploring the oral transmission of poetry across different cultures, blending history, music, and spoken word.
