Spoken Roads
Journey of a rediscovered word
A poetic and musical documentary series project initiated and led by Sophie Reverdi.
I envisioned Spoken Roads as a journey across continents, cultures and memories, to meet those who make speaking an art, an act of resistance, freedom and transmission.
From ancestral Romanian songs to African griots, from Harlem poets to Native American oral traditions, to contemporary Spoken Word scenes, this six-episode documentary series explores this universal language that transcends centuries and borders.
But behind this journey lies a deeply personal story: that of my roots, my wounds, my silences, and the words I took so long to rediscover.
Spoken Roads was born from a deep conviction: words can destroy, but they can also rebuild. They can divide, but above all, they can bring us together.
Despite significant creative and development work, this project has not yet come to fruition. Nevertheless, I have chosen to share the original artistic dossier here, a testament to an ambition that remains undiminished.
Today, Spoken Roads remains an open adventure. I hope to bring it to life alongside producers, directors, and artists who share this same sensitivity, this demand for sincerity, and this conviction that art can still bring human beings closer together.
Because some projects don't disappear when they are interrupted. They simply wait for the right encounters to resume their journey.
Because to speak is to exist. And because speech is perhaps our last territory of freedom.
